Job Summary

We're looking for two brilliant, community-engaged artists to propose ideas for week-long participatory projects this October, as part of our multi-year co-creation project Neighbourhood Creatives.

Job Description

CALLING BIRMINGHAM-BASED ARTISTS

Neighbourhood Creatives want to work with you!

If you had a week to work with a group of people to create a piece of art together - how would you go about it? We're looking for two brilliant, community-engaged artists to propose ideas for week-long participatory projects this October.

Each artist will work with one of our community partners (Ward End Wellbeing Centre and the WASH project) to host a bespoke programme of activity as part of a half-term festival we'll be delivering between 26th - 31st October 2026. The week will be an opportunity for participants to come together and create a piece of artwork, which we'll then showcase on the final day of the festival!

These commissions will aim to encourage local participants to connect with and respond to one of the following themes:

Mental Wellbeing
Connection & Community
Nature, Green Space & Environment

You'll work with a diverse range of participants throughout the week. Therefore, the activity / artwork and your proposal as part of this application should be designed to be inclusive and demonstrate consideration for the different groups involved.

This brief has been co-designed with our community partners to reflect the interests and missions of their organisations and participants, alongside the wider aims for the project as we work towards creating some permanent piece(s) of public artworks which will be installed in the area in 2027.

We're really interested in connecting with artists of any visual artform and are open to different ideas of what that 'artwork' could be! We're particularly interested to hear from those who might already have a link to Washwood Heath and Ward End.

Fee: £2000 fee plus access to an additional £1000 towards materials / tools for each commission.

Dates: starting from w/c 14th September - w/e 6th November 2026.

Download the brief from our website for more information.

Deadline for applications: 12pm (midday) on Friday 28th August.
