Job Description

We're looking for four new trustees to join SisterWood.

As a small, grassroots organisation, we're looking for people who share our values and want to help shape SisterWood's future as we grow thoughtfully and sustainably.

We're currently recruiting for four voluntary trustee roles:

Treasurer
Fundraiser
Governance & Board Operations
Marketing & Communications

As Treasurer, you will take a leading role in shaping and strengthening SisterWood's financial direction at a pivotal stage in our development. You'll help ensure not only that we are financially sound and compliant, but that we are building a clear, sustainable model for the future.

Working closely with the Chair, Director, and Trustees (particularly Fundraising), you'll bring clarity, confidence, and strategic insight to how we plan, resource, and grow our work.

If you're values-led, thoughtful and believe in the power of nature, community and creating spaces where young women can feel safe, seen and supported, we'd love to hear from you.

Whether you're an experienced trustee or bringing these skills to a board for the first time, your perspective could make a real difference.

We know that charity boards don't always reflect the communities they serve. We particularly welcome applications from people who are underrepresented in charity governance, including people from the global majority, d/Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people, LGBTQ+ people, people from working-class or lower socio-economic backgrounds, people with care experience. We'd also love to hear from people with strong connections to Devon.

Find out more about each role via the link below, where you'll also find the role descriptions.

Job Requirements

You don't need to have been a trustee before what matters most is your willingness to learn, your reliability, and your alignment with our values. We're keen to bring in trustees with a range of perspectives so the Board reflects different strengths and experiences.

We'd love you to bring:

Strong experience in financial management, oversight, or strategy (charity, social enterprise, or small organisation context)
Confidence taking ownership of financial processes and guiding others
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
Ability to translate financial information clearly and accessibly for non-financial colleagues and trustees
Understanding of charity finance, reporting requirements, and risk
Experience working alongside or overseeing accountants/bookkeepers
A collaborative approach, with confidence to both support and challenge constructively
Alignment with SisterWood's values and a commitment to proportionate, values-led financial practice.

Job Responsibilities

We're now looking for someone who can step into this role with confidence and take the lead on our finances from the outset. While financial expertise is essential, we're equally looking for someone who wants to play an active role as a trustee - contributing to Board
discussions, helping shape the organisation's direction and working collaboratively with the wider Board.

Full list of role responsibilities can be found within our job description.
