Job Description

The RA Magazine team is currently looking to appoint a Deputy Editor to join us on a fixed term contract basis.

The Deputy Editor, will support the delivery of the RA Magazine, ensuring it's delivered on schedule and on a sustainable financial basis, always maintaining the high standards readers expect.

Supporting the Editor, the Deputy Editor helps commission the magazine, conceiving original editorial ideas and liaising with writers. The Deputy Editor will manage the editorial side of the production process of the RA Magazine, encompassing scheduling, workflow tracking and liaison with freelance contributors, the Sub-Editor and other key points of contact. Other duties include copy-editing text, picture editing and writing articles both long and short ranging from exhibition previews to artist interviews.

This is a varied and exciting role that engages across all areas of the magazine, the Royal Academy and the world of art and artists.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have Substantial editorial experience within print publishing, with a strong track record of managing editorial content from commissioning through to publication.

The successful candidate will be an all-rounder, possessing journalistic flair as well as demonstrable in-depth knowledge of art history and contemporary art, with the ability to identify engaging stories and communicate confidently with artists, writers and industry professionals.

Approachable and empathetic, you will be able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues and external contacts
