Job Description
Gallery Operations & Administration:
- Daily Management: Assist with the daily running of the Gallery & general office administration.
- Database Oversight: Manage data entry and ensure art movements & meticulously recorded in Artlogic.
- Communication Assistance: Respond to press requests & manage all exhibition mail-outs & mailing lists.
- Visitor Experience: Field calls & confidently provide information about exhibitions/artists to visitors.
Exhibition & Event Support:
- Event Coordination: Help oversee private views/gallery events. Ordering necessary supplies & coordinate with Front of House teams to ensure smooth execution.
- Exhibition Administration: Produce supportive exhibition materials.
- Art Fair Assistance: Provide administrative/practical assistance for domestic & international art fairs.
- Digital Asset Management: Perform basic image archiving & document gallery activities for promotional use.
Building Management & Logistics Support:
- Facility Oversight: Keeping all areas of the building tidy and clean. Liaise with contractors for repairs, improvements, & services such as cleaning & waste removal.
- Storage Management: Work with on-site techs to maintain storage areas, ensuring they remain tidy & organised.
- General Administration: Manage deliveries & perform general running jobs as needed. Maintaining office and store-room supplies.

Job Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Gallery Expertise: Proven administrative experience in a contemporary art gallery or cultural organisation. Deep understanding of professional gallery operations and office systems.
- Operational Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workflows, prioritise tasks, and ensure the smooth running of a fast-paced environment.
- Professional Dedication: A firm commitment to gallery administration as a primary, long-term career path.
- Local Connection: Knowledge of or commitment to the Margate creative community. Candidates must be locally based (no remote work).
- Communication & Detail: Excellent written & verbal English plus a meticulous eye for detail.
- Technical & Personal: Proficient with Macs. You should be enthusiastic, helpful, and flexible regarding both practical & administrative tasks.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Job Responsibilities
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Computer literacy: proficient at using Excel, Word, Email apps, as well as work management platforms such as Trello. Must have an aptitude to learn additional & new programs where needed.
- Experience in using Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop & InDesign) (highly desirable but not essential).
- Experience with database management, specifically Artlogic (highly desirable but not essential).
- Art handling experience.
- Valid driver's license (desirable).

Carl Freedman Gallery is a contemporary art gallery situated in Margate, Kent. The gallery was founded by Carl Freedman in 2003 and represents contemporary artists from the UK, Europe and the USA.
Counter Editions, also situated in Margate, was founded in 2000. We commission and produce prints and multiples by leading international contemporary artists - collaborating closely with the international artist to produce exclusive editions in different mediums.
