Technical Manager

We are seeking a self-motivated, organised and welcoming Technical Manager to lead the technical operation of Greenwich Theatre. Reporting to the Artistic and Executive Directors, you will be a senior member of the management team, providing technical support for visiting productions, production management for in-house work, and assisting with building maintenance.

You will oversee the safe and successful get-ins, performances and get-outs of all visiting productions, act as Production Manager for in-house shows, supervise the Deputy Technical Manager and casual technicians, and help maintain the theatre building, making minor repairs where appropriate.

You will be the primary contact for lighting, sound, stage equipment, backstage facilities, storage, IT and phone systems, ensuring all technical systems are maintained to a high standard. You will take responsibility for Health & Safety compliance, ensuring staff and visiting companies work safely and follow theatre procedures.

Additional duties include managing casual technician recruitment and rotas, supporting apprentices and trainees, acting as a keyholder, contributing to the theatre's environmental objectives, and undertaking other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

Essential skills and experience

Minimum two years' full-time technical theatre experience, ideally in a busy receiving venue.
Experience leading technical teams and managing staff rotas.
Relevant theatre technical qualification or equivalent professional experience.
Strong knowledge of ETC Ion lighting desks and modern theatre equipment.
Experience supporting mid-scale touring productions.
Production management experience, including budgeting, scheduling and contractor management.
Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel and CAD software.

Desirable

Knowledge of IT networks.
Recruitment experience.
