Job Summary
Job Description
Key responsibilities include:
Meeting and liaising with international clients, sales, invoicing and payment processing.
Acting as the first point of contact for visitors to the gallery, welcoming clients and representing the business in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
Conducting auction research, the preparation of consignment lists, condition reports and recording of results.
Managing the company inbox, writing emails and correspondence on behalf of the directors.
Assisting with the organisation of exhibitions, including catalogue writing and editing, research and proofreading.
Arranging shipping, export licence applications and relevant documentation; monitoring shipping progress and resolving any customs issues.
Providing general support for the upcoming gallery move to Mayfair.
Bookkeeping duties including the maintenance and updating of stock books, day books, saleroom entry books and repairers' books.
Updating websites and social media pages.
Maintaining the library; implementing and maintaining filing systems.
Day to day administrative tasks and supporting the directors as needed.
Job Requirements
Fluent English speaker; additional spoken and written Chinese language skills preferred.
Previous experience in a similar administrative role in a gallery or auction house environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including excellent typing skills.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Knowledge of Chinese art and antiques, particularly ceramics.
Strong verbal communicator with previous experience of dealing professionally with clients and external contacts.
Excellent written communication skills including proofreading and editing.
Ability to produce accurate records and maintain filing systems.
Confidence handling international correspondence and shipping administration.
Degree in Art History or a related subject with a genuine interest in antiques and art.

Marchant, founded in 1925 by Samuel Sidney Marchant (1897-1975), are one of the world’s most respected dealers in Chinese and Oriental art.
