Job Description

Tate has an extensive programme of displays across its four sites as well as lending works nationally and internationally as part of Tate's mission to promote public understanding and enjoyment of British art from the 16th century to the present day, and of international modern and contemporary art.

As Assistant Collection Registrar (Loans) you will be part of the Collection Management team and involved in the loans process from start to finish. You will spend varied days co-ordinating and documenting the movement and installation of art works from our collections, prioritising their care.

Your excellent organisation and planning skills, experience of complex tasks and the ability to solve problems pragmatically and through negotiation, prioritising the care of works of art sets you apart. You have a positive, versatile attitude with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines whilst retaining excellent attention to detail. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will also mean that you communicate diplomatically and effectively at all levels, both internally and with external contacts.

This role is offered as a fixed-term contract until 16 April 2027. The role will be on a part-time basis, working 21.6 hours over 3 days per week.

Job Requirements

Organisation and planning skills, the ability to remain calm and focussed while working under pressure and solve problems pragmatically and through negotiation
Able to work accurately, pay attention to detail and apply judgement with a commitment to quality control
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively at all levels, both internally and with external contacts
A flexible approach, able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and on your own initiative
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of colleagues and treat all colleagues with dignity and respect
An interest in and commitment to the work of Tate
Experience of working in the area of registration within a museum or gallery
Experience of auditing, documentation and cataloguing, including using a collection management database and supporting applications

Job Responsibilities

Safeguard works of art in Tate's care by monitoring the implementation of Tate's policy for care of the collections; ensuring that all relevant legal requirements and international conventions are complied with, including Known Consignor and non-legislative guidelines
Organise import/export arrangements, customs procedures, courier arrangements, security clearance, government indemnity and commercial insurance. Assist with the drafting and administering of contractual letters and scrutinise insurance and legal documents, including loan and acquisition agreements
Verify that borrowing institutions meet all requirements for insurance cover, security, handling, display and environmental conditions as required
Facilitate all requests for objects for display/ loan/ potential acquisition and liaise with colleagues in other teams, including Art Handling, Conservation, Curatorial and Photography, over suitability and availability of individual works
