ABOUT THE ROLE
The Criterion Theatre Trust welcomes thousands of visitors each year to our productions, as well as to a variety of other events including showcases, workshops and readings.
This training scheme is aimed at an individual who has an interest in a career in ticketing and box office operations of a theatre or arts venue. Relevant experience is not essential; the ideal candidate will be wishing to gather experience and knowledge to be able to progress in a career in ticketing.
You will learn how the box office department ensures the smooth running of the ticketing operation at the Criterion ensuring that all procedures are implemented effectively and efficiently ensuring high standards of customer service, accurate tickets sales and reporting. This includes liaising with external companies including producers, marketing, ticket agents, press and publicity along with all other departments in the theatre. This includes close relationships with finance, front of house management and team, Health and Safety, HR and backstage technical departments all of which contributes to ensure that our customer, company and other theatre users enjoy a safe, pleasant and enjoyable visit to the Criterion.
£14.85 p/h - 30 hours per week
Job Requirements
- Interest in ticketing and box office operations, with a willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of theatre or arts venue operations.
Ability to communicate clearly with diverse teams and the public.
- Confident verbal and written communication; approachable and professional.
- Good English language skills and eligibility to work in the UK.
- Willingness to undertake training and ongoing development.
- Able to manage shifting priorities and work effectively.
- Punctual, reliable, and well organised with good time management.
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office or similar systems; willingness to learn ticketing systems, sales and reporting.
- Positive attitude with a collaborative approach and ability to use initiative.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
- Genuine interest in the arts, openness to feedback, and respect for diversity.
Job Responsibilities
DURING YOUR TRAINING YOU WILL:
- Ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times.
- Comply with Health & Safety regulations, GDPR, and company policies.
- Complete a three-month training programme working with our Box Office Managers in a busy theatre environment, including evenings and weekends.
- Shadow departments including Front of House and Finance to understand their role in the theatre's operation.
- Receive training on Spektrix, Excel, Word, Outlook, Dotdigital and Nimbus.
- Learn how events are set up, reports automated, offers enabled, and data processed and protected.
- Learn all aspects of the box office, including reporting, ticket sales, group bookings, agency sales, production ticketing and customer enquiries.
- Attend production marketing meetings and short placements at partner venues.
- Take part in regular assessment reviews and demonstrate commitment to learning throughout the programme.
