Job Title: Fundraising Officer
Reports to: Head of Strategic Partnerships
Term: Permanent, full-time, 35 hours per week (excluding breaks), with some evening and weekend work
Salary: £27,000 + 5% employer pension contribution
Annual leave: 21 days + Bank Holidays, plus discretionary office closure between Christmas and New Year. An additional day of leave is granted per year of service, up to a maximum of five extra days
Probation period: 6 months
Location: Full-time, in-person, London office
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Fundraising Officer to support our fundraising team in delivering the outcomes of The Big House's Fundraising Strategy.
Mentored by the Fundraising Executive, with a focus on income generation from Trusts and Foundations
Involves bid writing, nurturing current and generating new funding relationships, and day-to-day administration of The Big House's reporting deadlines
Supports the Fundraising Executive in managing the fundraising pipeline, ensuring a strong list of relevant prospects and that weighted pipeline value covers the funding gap
Job Requirements
Trusts and Foundations:
Produce well-researched trust and foundation proposals to meet income targets
Support the Fundraising Executive on strategy delivery and pipeline management, ensuring a healthy prospect list and coverage of the funding gap
Support reporting and application deadlines
Coordinate funder cultivation opportunities, including events and productions
Create funder-facing presentations; update the Head of Strategic Partnerships
Support diversified income strategy and multi-year funder identification
Cultivate relationships with current, historic and prospective funders
Research:
Keep abreast of cultural and care-sector policy
Research similar organisations and their funders
Ensure up-to-date evidence and statistics are used in funding copy
Admin and General:
Keep supporters informed; represent TBH at events
Support donor communications
Responsible use of AI per TBH policy
Contribute to monitoring and evaluation
Job Responsibilities
Essential:
Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent (grade C+)
Awareness of trusts and foundations funding, timescales and reporting requirements
Awareness of GDPR for charities and fundraising
Excellent numeracy and budgetary skills; strong attention to detail
Confident with Microsoft Office; self-sufficient in a reactive environment
Strong copywriting, research and communication skills; experience writing compelling funding cases
Organised, creative, diplomatic team player with leadership potential
Passion for the arts and its impact on individuals and communities
Desirable:
Degree level education
Experience securing a grant of £50,000+ from one funder
Knowledge of major national funders (e.g. National Lottery, Esm e Fairbairn, ACE)
Experience in social care or a small charity; confident with CRM
Lived experience of the care or criminal justice system, and/or from the global majority
Subject to enhanced DBS clearance and two references.

About The Big House
The Big House has a simple mission: to enable care leavers to fulfil their potential. Through drama and individualised long-term support, we help care leavers overcome traumas experienced in childhood so they can make the complex transition from looked-after child to independent adult. Our main activities are weekly drop-in drama and employment workshops, the twice-yearly three-month Open House Project, and standalone co-productions in our venue and across the UK.
