Job Summary
Job Description
Sunday Roundabout Guitar (complete beginners):
10:00 - 10:45 Roundabout Guitar
11:00 - 11:45 Roundabout Guitar
There is a gentle curriculum to follow and full training is given.
Tutors are paid for the full two hours so that that they can take the time before/between/after classes to be ready to teach and safely hand children back to their carers.
Sunday Ukulele classes:
12:45 - 13:15 Ukulele (4-5yrs) Some Experience
13:30 - 14:00 Ukulele (4-5yrs) Absolute Beginner
14:15 - 14:45 Ukulele (4-5yrs) Absolute Beginner
The Conservatoire teaches in line with local state school terms as follows:
Autumn 26: 7th September - 13th December
Spring 27: 4th January - 25 March
Summer 27: 12th April - 19th July
Our group rate pay is £34 p/h paid on a freelance basis.
Candidates are welcome to apply for either or both roles
Job Requirements
Both roles require kind, patient musicians and communicators. Candidates should have a professional music qualification and/or be able to demonstrate teaching experience. Singing forms a large part of this teaching (particularly in the ukulele classes) so a confident, but not necessarily trained, voice is helpful.
These are ideal roles for early-stage musicians who want to make teaching part of their career although we welcome more experienced candidates.
Job Responsibilities
Roundabout:
There is a gentle curriculum to be followed and reports to be written each half-term. Tutors are fully trained on the programme - we are holding training sessions on Sunday 6th September. Ideally, if the timeline allows, the successful candidate would attend (paid at our training rate).
Ukulele classes:
We have a series of lesson plans and songs that tutors can follow although we are very happy for tutors to bring their own ideas and material. There is no additional admin.
Safeguarding: Blackheath Conservatoire is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share and demonstrate this commitment. We require all staff and freelance tutors to hold Right to Work, Enhanced DBS and undertake Safeguarding Level One training - we can process a DBS for those who do not already hold one. We will seek work references, undertake online searches for prospective candidates before a job offer is confirmed.
