Stephen Joseph Theatre (SJT) is looking to recruit a skilled Senior Technician to join our busy Production team. The role will involve working across productions, get-ins, get-outs, fit-ups, performances and maintenance, with opportunities to develop and use a broad range of technical skills.
We are looking for a dedicated, practical and skilled technician who is confident working as part of a team, has a good eye for detail and is keen to contribute to the high-quality productions and welcoming, collaborative working culture we have become known for.
This a permanent, full-time contract based in Scarborough.

To contribute to the safe and efficient rigging and striking of lighting/ sound/ video/ technical
and other relevant equipment.
To assist actively with the training of new/younger members of the technical department
To supervise and induct casual and freelance technical staff
To oversee and carry out agreed training programs alongside Technical Manager.
To carry out pre-show preparation of lighting/ sound/ video/ technical and other relevant
equipment.
To focus, program and operate lighting
To carry out live and/or recorded sound operation.
To carry out pre-show checks and setting up for performances.
To create lighting/ sound/ technical effects and practicals.
To read and interpret rig plans, ground plans and elevations.
To assist in the maintenance of all lighting/ sound/ video equipment.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Criteria
Experience of working in a technical department of a producing theatre or equivalent.
Experience of LX rigging and focusing
Experience of programming ETC/ EOS family lighting desks.
Experience of using digital mixing desks and of mixing live performances/concerts.
Experience of programming Q-lab.
The ability to make practical electrical props to a high standard.
A good working knowledge of theatre electrics, sound and video.
Good communication skills.
Excellent team worker.
Computer literate and familiar with Apple OS X and Windows programs.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
Experience of assisting learning of junior members of the Technical Department
Desirable Criteria
Rigging and flying experience.
Experience of working on stage during performance.
Experience of fit-ups & get-outs
Touring experience.
Full clean driving licence.
Experience of implementing training procedures
