Job Description

HOME, Manchester's premier arts centre, is recruiting a BFI Film Academy Assistant Producer & Content Co-ordinator to join its Creative Engagement team.

The BFI Film Academy welcomes 20 young people aged 16-19 to explore careers in film through industry talks, creative workshops and the creation of a short film screened at HOME. Reporting to the Creative Engagement Practitioner: Film, you will support the facilitation, organisation and delivery of this year's content, working alongside the BFI Film Academy Lead Producer and the BFI Film Academy Intern so that sessions run smoothly and participants are engaged.

This is a cross-functioning role combining production support with content creation. You will document sessions with video, photography and social media content, capturing and editing behind-the-scenes material from film shoots and workshops to create a short BTS film screened at the final showcase event and shared on HOME's online channels. As Lead Partner for the Northwest Hubs, HOME will also require you to visit partner venues (Blackpool, Barrow-in-Furness, Liverpool and Rochdale) to capture footage and interviews for the film.

Job Requirements

Essential: experience working towards a goal as part of a team; technical literacy and knowledge of cameras and editing software; confident camera and editing skills; previous use of Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); proficient reading and writing skills; and familiarity with Outlook or other email and calendar scheduling apps.

You will have a keen interest in film and in working with young people, bring creative problem-solving and initiative to find ways to support the project, and have your own kit and access to editing software to film and complete the behind-the-scenes documentary.

Desirable: experience working with young people, and experience working on creative projects, particularly film-related.

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required, along with willingness to travel to partner venues across the Northwest. All work involving young people must follow correct procedures around GDPR, image consent and safeguarding.

Job Responsibilities

Work closely with the Creative Engagement Practitioner of Film and the Lead Producer to complete tasks to a high standard. Handle session-based tasks: petty cash, running errands, contacting participants and helping with equipment. Support the Lead Producer and freelance staff so sessions run smoothly, plus production admin such as emailing actors, contacting locations and creating schedules.

Capture sessions through video, photography and social media content; edit and post social content for the project. Create a short behind-the-scenes film for the showcase event and HOME's online channels, including footage from Hub partner venues in Blackpool, Barrow-in-Furness, Liverpool and Rochdale. Follow correct procedures for GDPR, image consent and safeguarding.

Work closely with young people to promote engagement, keeping participants' welfare central. Evaluate and record work throughout to feed into HOME's project evaluation and the BFI's end-of-activity report.
