Job Summary

We are looking for a Finance Officer to join our friendly team on a part-time basis with office-based or hybrid working in Epsom, Surrey, working 20 hours (0.5 FTE) over three or four days per week. We are open to a flexible working pattern across the week, to be discussed at interview.

Job Description

The Horton is an award-winning independent cultural venue in Epsom, Surrey hosting live performance, creative arts, community projects and events in stunning listed building.
The venue is managed by a registered charity and opened in 2022, following a major renovation works.

We are looking for a Finance Officer to join our friendly team on a part-time basis with office-based or hybrid working in Epsom. You will be reporting to the Finance Manager who is also part-time.

The finance function of The Horton has three main elements
1. Income generated through the sale of tickets, workshops, events and venue hire.
2. Commercial income generated by the trading subsidiary which runs the caf -bar and pays any profits to the charity.
3. Funds raised from individual donations, trusts and foundations, and corporate sponsors.

This role requires a hands-on professional who can manage day-to-day bookkeeping and some HR administration, liaising with other team members to provide financial information.

Finance Officer duties include:
Posting weekly sales and bank reconciliations to Xero
Processing weekly payment run and managing the purchase ledger
Raising sales invoices and managing the sales ledger
Processing purchase orders and petty cash
Maintaining customer / supplier records on Xero
Banking of cash and cash-handling when required
Carrying out month end reconciliations and accounting journals
Calculating performance settlement for artists
Providing data and assistance for the development and monitoring of budgets
Assist with preparation of management accounts and year end accounts
Assist with preparation of papers for quarterly Finance Committee and bi-monthly Board meetings
Maintaining records for all project funds, ensuring all expenditure is accurately recorded

Job Requirements

Skills and key attributes required

Essential
A bookkeeping or accounting qualification to AAT level 3 (Part-qualified accountant or equivalent)
Previous experience of using Xero
Comfortable working with MS Excel
Previous experience in a similar role
Being a team player
Excellent attention to detail
Good communication
Ability to work on their own with minimal day-to-day supervision
Supporting the vision and values of The Horton

Desirable
Prior experience in the charity sector
Prior experience of the hospitality sector
Enthusiasm for creative arts and culture
