Ikon will engage an Artist in Residence at HMP Grendon - a category B, all male, psychotherapeutic prison - and HMP Spring Hill - a category D, all male, open prison, which share the same site and governance.

Based on-site at HMP Grendon and HMP Spring Hill, the Programme Evaluator will be embedded in all aspects of the artist residency. Over the course of the three-year residency, the Programme Evaluator will implement an evaluation framework designed to measure the impact of the residency programme on both prisons. A mixed methods approach will include: (1) Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), providing a robust, longitudinal quantitative measure; (2) Most Significant Change (MSC), providing a participatory, narrative-based study, generating a rich qualitative insight into individual and collective change.

Reporting to Ikon's Producer of Art in Prisons and Health, the Programme Evaluator will work alongside the Artist in Residence, Producer and Art Orderly in organising a programme of workshops, exhibitions and events. The Art Orderly, recruited from the HMP Grendon community, will assist with the day-to-day running of the studio.

During the three years of the programme, the team will share the evaluation findings through seminars and conferencing with academic, local and national government, criminal justice, health and community partners, and support the Producer with board and funder reporting requirements.
