Job Description
Visitor Engagement & Gallery Invigilation
Serve as the main point of contact for gallery enquiries, offering welcoming and knowledgeable visitor experience.
Engage with visitors to share insights about current displays, up-sell events, and offer tours/talks with visiting groups.
Invigilate the gallery spaces to ensure artworks and spaces are welcoming, clean, safe, and secure, and that technical equipment functions properly.
Exhibition Setup & Installation
Assist the Exhibitions Manager with curating, researching, and setting up exhibitions.
Carry out practical tasks during changeover periods, including prepping and painting walls, moving gallery furniture, condition-checking artwork, and hanging pieces.
Exhibition Administration
Support logistics by coordinating the safe delivery and return of artworks.
Liaise with artists, issue contracts, support basic finance administration, and maintain stock inventory for exhibition materials.
Log visitor feedback and use spreadsheets/online platforms to help evaluate visitor participation.
Gallery Operations & Safety
Perform routine daily opening and closing procedures.
Lone-work confidently during quieter periods, taking responsibility for gallery security and safety.
Follow health, safety, and emergency evacuation protocols, resolving basic day-to-day visitor issues.
Job Requirements
Skills & Experience
Excellent customer service skills.
Experience of working in a public-facing role, preferably in a gallery, museum or cultural venue.
Confidence in engaging with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Passion and interest in craft, design and visual arts.
Aptitude for multi-tasking and prioritising to meet deadlines.
Attention to detail with good organisation and administrative skills
Knowledge of co-ordinating and administering events and/or exhibitions.
Good knowledge of Microsoft systems in particular Excel.
Working Environment & Role Expectations
Be confident to work alone and independently, maintaining gallery security and safety during opening hours.
Be ready to welcome and adapt communication for diverse audiences, including unexpected school or tour groups.
Happy to swiftly shift from administrative duties to assisting visitors as gallery visitor numbers fluctuate.
Able to perform hands-on physical tasks during exhibition changeover.
Job Responsibilities
First point of contact for gallery enquiries, delivering high-quality customer service to enrich the visitor experience, supporting group/school visits with talks and tours.
Maintain strong knowledge of Hub programmes/exhibitions to engage visitors, share enthusiasm, and up-sell events/artworks.
Handle daily gallery duties, opening/closing, and invigilation to keep spaces clean, safe, and equipment working.
Assist Exhibitions Manager with research, curation, and installation (painting furniture/walls, condition checks, hanging artworks).
Support exhibition admin: artist liaison, contracts, finance details, artwork transport, and inventory tracking.
Support monitoring and evaluation by logging feedback and analysing visitor/artist engagement data.
Maintain safety/evacuation knowledge and assist in emergencies as directed.
Resolve routine visitor issues under Duty Manager guidance and remain alert to ensure health, safety, and comfort.
