Job Description
The Newham Heritage Centre Learning and Engagement (L&E) Apprentice will provide reliable and high-quality support within the Heritage Service, with a focus on contributing to the planning, organisation and co-ordination of engagement activities within Newham Heritage Centre's programme. Alongside this, the L&E Apprentice will successfully complete the Cultural Learning and Participation Officer Level 3 qualification. This will require the postholder to meet performance standards and the qualification requirements.
The L&E Apprentice role is focused on the planning, organisation and delivery of a wide-reaching heritage engagement programme, which includes education and creative activities and projects. The postholder will work alongside the project team, and be managed by the Learning and Engagement Officer, to gain experience delivering workshops, talks, performances and events alongside supporting 'day-to-day' visitor experience.
The post holder will undertake a final assessment which includes a final project report and the development of a professional portfolio adhering to the assessment standards needed to achieve the Cultural Learning and Participation Officer Level 3 Apprenticeship.
This role forms part of Newham Council's wider project supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund to transform Canning Town Old Library into Newham Heritage Centre, the borough's new cultural hub which will explore Newham's extraordinary heritage and stories.
£27,785 - Annual Salary
Fixed Term Contract - 24 Months

Job Requirements
GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
Strong 'people skills' with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people.
Reliability and punctuality
Ability to work well as part of a team
Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks
Organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
Good ICT skills
Inclusive approach to work which is culturally appropriate and responsive to the needs of all users
A passion for arts, heritage and culture
Good knowledge and understanding of Newham and East London
A commitment to undertake and complete a qualification via a structured apprenticeship training programme
Flexibility in working hours, which may include weekends and evenings
Willingness and ability to travel throughout Newham
A commitment to safeguarding vulnerable adults, children and young people
Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check following a conditional offer
Job Responsibilities
Support the delivery of the Newham Heritage Centre programme
Work with a diverse range of community stakeholders
Support the delivery of day-to-day activities
Work closely with the Newham Heritage Centre team to support community engagement
Support the work of volunteers and community participants
Carry out administrative duties related to planning, monitoring and evaluation
Adhere to both Council and key regulatory requirements and policies
Ensure the workplan stays on track and actions are completed within agreed timescales
Ensure excellent levels of customer satisfaction and visitor experience
Maintain high levels of sensitivity in relation to personal, confidential and sensitive issues in line with General Data Protection Regulations
Work in the service's offices in Canning Town, along with other locations in the borough when required
Complete all tests and assignments required as part of apprenticeship scheme
