Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Freelance Photography Arts Tutor to deliver inclusive, high-quality sessions for adults with learning disabilities, mental health needs and other support requirements as part of our In-House Programme.

This is an experimental arts class combining photography and fine art. You will help students explore photography as a medium for creative expression, using approaches including mixed-media collage, cyanotypes and other photographic processes.

You will design accessible and imaginative sessions that challenge and inspire participants, supporting their artistic development, confidence and personal progression. You will work with Project Managers to plan term themes, lessons and materials, provide meaningful feedback, and help students develop work for exhibitions. You will also follow safeguarding, health and safety and consent procedures.

Location: Community Focus Inclusive Arts, Friary House, Friary Park, Friary Road, London N20 0NR

Rate: £90 per session (2 hours delivery + 1 hour prep)

Working Pattern: Term-time, part-time (sessional)

Start Date: Monday 2nd November, Time: 2pm - 4pm

Contract Type: Freelance (sessional, 3 x 11 week terms per year, with potential for additional sessions in summer pending mutual availability & space)

Session Dates: 2nd, 9th , 16th, 23rd, 30th November 2026 (End of Term), dates for 2027 TBC

Job Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable experience as a practising photographer artist, with a strong portfolio across one or more disciplines.
- Experience teaching or facilitating fine art sessions at an advanced or post-beginner level, ideally with disabled or neurodivergent adults and young people.
- The ability to plan and deliver sessions that are both technically rigorous and creatively open, responsive to individual learners within a group setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to give constructive, meaningful feedback and support a wide range of learners.
- A positive, collaborative attitude and commitment to inclusive practice.
- Up-to-date enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable
- Qualification in fine art, photography, education, community arts or a related field (or equivalent).
- Experience supporting participants to develop a sustained body of work.
- Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices.

Job Responsibilities

- Design and deliver engaging, inclusive and imaginative Photography art sessions for a group of disabled adults.

- Plan sessions that challenge and inspire participants, supporting their creative development, artistic practice and personal progression.

- Create a focused, friendly and accessible environment where every student feels valued, stretched and able to do their best work.

- Collaborate with Project Managers to plan term schedules, lesson plans and materials lists.

- Provide detailed feedback and progression notes for students, recognising achievements and identifying meaningful steps in their artistic development.

- Contribute to documenting classes (photographs, notes, quotes) for evaluation and social media, in line with consent guidelines.

- Carry out risk assessments and ensure all safeguarding and health and safety procedures are followed.

- Communicate promptly with Project Managers regarding attendance, safeguarding or any other concerns.
