Box Clever is an established, highly regarded and professional theatre company dedicated to the creation of contemporary theatre for young people. We are based at the Blackfriars Theatre & Arts Centre in Boston, Lincolnshire and tour nationally.
We are currently looking for a new trustee with particular experience and expertise in financial management to support the Company as we move in to our 30th year. We are about to embark on applying to continue our status as an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation for the next five years in which we want to increase the Company's footprint and to increase our reach to as many schools as possible. A strong board with a range of expertise is vital. You would be joining a Board of thirteen able, committed and active Trustees. The majority of meetings are held online so it does not matter where you are based. We do arrange to meet in person so that Trustees can meet each other and employees and see the work that they are crucial to make happening.
Whether you have been on a board before or this is your first time, if you can bring a passion and commitment to Box Clever's work, along with strong financial literacy, that will support us in fulfilling our vision then we'd love to hear from you.
We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with any of the following backgrounds / experiences in addition to their financial expertise:
Education / teaching / working with young people
Local knowledge of, or connections in, Lincolnshire
Understanding of the UK cultural landscape
Job Requirements
As Treasurer Designate, you would chair the Finance subcommittee and report on the financial health of the Company to the Board that meets quarterly. The Company's management team has always prioritised careful budgeting and valued the regular oversight of the Treasurer to ensure that the Company is always able to carry out its important work in cultural and social education.
The Company's systems are robust but we never cease to be vigilant and prepared for any eventuality. Box Clever is a small company but one that punches above its weight and we would welcome a new Trustee who not only had the required expertise but also understood the challenges of operating in a world where margins are tight and funding never assured.
The ideal person will demonstrate expertise & experience in financial management proving strong financial literacy. They will also show a deep commitment to being an actively involved member of the Board with the ability to be responsive to the company's needs.
Job Responsibilities
The Trustee will support all financial aspects of Box Clever's by:
- ensuring that Box Clever operates in accordance with Company and Charity Law, including the filing of statutory returns at Companies House and with the Charity Commission.
- ensuring the prudent financial management of Box Clever, including discussing, deciding on and reviewing annual budgets.
- ensuring Box Clever keeps proper accounts.
- ensuring the payment of all taxes due to the Inland Revenue.
- ensuring that Box Clever's assets are safeguarded and are well managed and maintained.
- ensuring that Box Clever is properly insured.
