Job Summary

The Head of Workshop is responsible for the management of the workshops (woodwork, metal and props), ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of all scenic construction, fabrication, maintenance, and repair activities.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 39 per week excluding fit-ups and get outs

Salary: £43,000-£48,000 per annum

Job Requirements

The Head of Workshops is a pivotal leadership role at the heart of our Production Team, driving the creation of ambitious productions from concept to stage through strategic planning, operational management, and expert workshop leadership. Leading the woodwork, metalwork, and props departments, you will oversee staff, resources, budgets, procurement, and production schedules, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. With a strong understanding of scenic construction and fabrication processes, you will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship while supporting the successful delivery of our productions.

Job Responsibilities

An important element of this role is dedicated to administration and project management. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate project documentation, build schedules, procurement records, stock control systems, maintenance logs, risk assessments, budget monitoring, reporting, and workload planning, ensuring clear oversight of all workshop activities. You will coordinate resources, manage suppliers, track expenditure, support production planning, and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and organisational procedures. We are looking for an experienced workshop leader who combines strong technical expertise with confident organisational and administrative skills, and who is critically, comfortable being hands on in our busy and high performing workshop.
